An exciting day trip from El Alamein to Alexandria, where you’ll explore the rock-cut Roman catacombs, the impressive ruins of a Roman temple complex, and Qaitbay Citadel. Visit the historic Bibliotheca Alexandrina and enjoy a tasty seafood lunch by the Mediterranean Sea.
Your journey will begin with a pick-up from your hotel in El Alamein by a representative from Canary Tours. First, you'll visit Pompey’s Pillar, erected in honor of Emperor Diocletian at the end of the 4th century. Originally part of the Temple of Serapis, this remarkable structure once rivaled the Soma and the Caesarean.
Next, you will proceed to the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the largest Roman cemetery, consisting of three levels intricately cut into the rock.
After exploring the catacombs, enjoy a delicious seafood lunch at a local restaurant in Alexandria.
Following lunch, visit the Qaitbay Citadel, built on the site of the ancient lighthouse of Alexandria. Then, explore the stunning Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a modern tribute to the ancient library that once graced the city.
Finally, you will be transferred back to your hotel in El Alamein, concluding your memorable day trip to Alexandria!
